I have broken the links to hundreds and hundreds of photos, which will take a long time to repair. The workaround is to replace "photo.matthewpiers" in the link URL with "matthewpiers.smugmug". Awkward, but only temporary.

I haven't gone past the wikipedia entry on the Atmos, myself, but what it contains is fascinating. (I'm a little worried that if I learn too much, and I know where I can buy one, something bad might happen.)
Mechanical watches of all kinds fascinate me. The idea of a machine that can keep accurate time, to within 99.999%, delicate enough to run on miniscule amounts of power while withstanding massive shocks, and keeping it all working through a huge temperature range regardless of what orientation it's held in - it's amazing. And the anachronism of it all, that a cheap computer chip can do a better job, just increases the marvel that I see in it.
