The Ricoh GR is an amazing little camera. I'll occasionally need to take some time out from photographing and just marvel at how well built it is, how nice is feels to use, how straightforward its controls are, and of course how well its photos can turn out.
But it's just so incredibly nice to have a small camera with a really good short-telephoto lens.
I should have been closer for the first photo, but there's a limit to how close I want to be to construction equipment for the sake of a couple of snap-shots.
This was really just a check to see if my Ricoh GR and Sigma DP3M can play well together. It's partly that they have such different sensors, but also because of their focal lengths. The 28/75 compact pair is more divergent than my usual 35/60 lenses for my D800, and I'm a photographer of habit.
This was meant as a practice shot to play with a tilted plane of focus with my tilt-shift lens. Too bad I miscalculated the exposure so badly. My newest new-blog entry: matthewpiers.com/B/140413

These were just quick shots taken with my little camera as a diversion. If they were really meant to be a series then I either would have needed the horizon to be in the same position for the third photo, or have more photos with the horizons placed differently to balance it out.

These are straight from the GR with just the default lightroom development. And cropped to square, of course.
The first photo is taken without flash under direct sun, while the second is using an off-camera flash for fill without changing the camera settings. The third is taken with the camera set to underexpose by about two stops and a bit of a boost to the flash power. This is so much easier with a compact camera than an SLR.

I've been spending some time at Humber Bay Park, taking photos of nothing, as I tend to do. The most recent batch can be seen on matthewpiers.com.
The camera is in about the same spot in the first two shots, which are taken a week apart. The second visit was on a day with winds gusting between 40-60km/h, but the tripod was buried at least six inches into the sand and pebbles that passes for a beach. While I flubbed many shots, none of them were because of the elements.
