Expressway

Having not done much "fun" shooting recently, today I decided to do a speed project and create a series of 24 photos from a single location. The series itself is a success, but this is the only photo I expect to show here.

Lakeshore and Spadina.

South Nevada Street, Fallon, Nevada, September 18, 2007

On the day I was born, Steven Shore was on Deerfield Street, Greenfield, Massachusetts.
His carefully composed scenes of otherwise mundane urban subjects has been a powerful influence on me. Shore took several road trips during the early and mid-70's, and among other things, produced many photos of and from hotels.

This photo of a hotel was taken on a road trip, and while I certainly can't claim Shore's skill or care, it was taken while I was with someone else who has been a powerful influence on me. Happy birthday, Brett.

Eclipse 08

Since I avoided making any Dark Side Of The Moon references when I posted my eclipse photos last August, I'll continue to not make any.

This was shot with a tripod that weighs twice as much as the little one that I used in August 2007, and has a geared head instead of a ball head. The results were dramatically better, despite the fact that nothing else changed, except that this time I knew what I was doing.

Poor Quenton

This post marks a change from a free photo host to a smugmug account. In addition to better hosting, it also includes the frequently-requested ability to buy prints and even legitimate private and commercial downloads.

Good news for me - but I still wonder what happened to Quenton's sister.

Hockey

The word "Hockey" invariably makes me think of Jughead's song.
I blame the CBC.

Black Ice

A photo from today, nicely illustrating why there have been so few updates recently.
