(939) Whatever

I don't know which is hardest for me to imagine a world without: cars, PovertyMart™, or Helvetica.

Notice how the distinctive little tail on the R really doesn't work for this sign...

(938) Tension and Dark

I've been in a contemplative mood recently.

I decided to remove the watermarks from this and the previous photo. For one thing, I think it would spoil the balance and structure of the images; and besides, who's going to be ripping these ones off?

Fence and Dark

In the spirit of Edgar Nye and Mark Twain, I hope that someday someone will quip that my photographs are better than they look.

(937) Birds

Those who know me will have no doubt that this is exactly the photo that I wanted.

Blue Angels #3.

Blue Angels 1 & 2

Although it's been twenty-six years since the Blue Angels flew over Toronto - I was nine - I distinctly remember smaller, faster planes.

Budget cuts?
Safety considerations?

...but no, the Navy just wanted the Marines to get there first. Four F/A-18's on a flyby almost directly overhead.

(Neither of these photos have been cropped.)

(936) Plywood

This bleached wood is attached to a roadside crash barrier at the end of a park road that I'd always ridden past.

This photo was a trick question for my camera - it's much brighter than the average scene and I wanted to see how it would meter the exposure. The D700 nailed it: I actually had to darken the photo slightly in post. It's not supposed to be able to do that.

(This is the first time I'm posting a 'Weekly Photo' on a Monday, but with working an extra shift and having a holiday, it's still a sunday to me.)

Back to School

The neighbourhood is filling up with university students again.

I have broken the links to hundreds and hundreds of photos, which will take a long time to repair. The workaround is to replace "photo.matthewpiers" in the link URL with "matthewpiers.smugmug". Awkward, but only temporary.

This is happening because I have revamped matthewpiers dot com. More of what I write and photograph will be going there, so check it out as well.
